The Crayfish Have Arrived!!

Cheers could be heard coming from the third grade classroom, when the announcement was made over the intercom. "Your organisms have arrived!" Yes, our crayfish had arrived safely from California on January 20th. After unpacking them and getting them settled into their tubs with some Elodea, each science group chose a crayfish that they wanted to observe. The students named their crayfish and will be adding to their habitats. We are hoping we can keep them alive until the end of the year, so students can take them home.
Besides observing the crayfish, the third graders are also studying seeds and growing the seeds in water. We started out by tasting fruit and observing seeds inside of the fruit. Each child recorded properties of the seeds they found and had the chance to taste some fruits that they don't normally get to taste. Now, we are watching our seeds sprout and grow. If you see a third grader, ask them the term that refers to growing plants in water. Or, better yet, stop in and see their crayfish and their sprouting seeds! I'm sure they'd love to show you!
