Kindergarten Field Trip
by Carrie Thornton and Michelle Schmer
April 18, 2008
Kindergartners enjoyed a fun day of learning. On Wednesday, April 16th Mrs. Thornton and Mrs. Schmer's classes had a field trip to Hastings and Grand Island. The first stop was at the Hastings Children's Museum where students played at different stations. They enjoyed various activities from very large building logs to dress up and grocery shopping. We then traveled to Hastings Lincoln Fire Station. Captain Todd Brehm and other firemen showed us numerous aspects of the station. We enjoyed a video about fire safety with Pumba and Timon. The students were surprised when a fully suited firefighter crawled into the room. After the video we were given a tour of the living quarters and they explained how the station is a working station. Each firefighter is on duty for 24 hours and off duty 48 hours. The students also enjoyed looking at different tools and features on the fire trucks. They even were able to spray the fire hose if they chose to. After a quick lunch we then traveled to Stuhr Museum in Grand Island. We visited a living farm from the 1800s. We saw farm animals, milked a pretend cow, pet chicks, gathered eggs, and pumped fresh water. We knew the day was a success by the tired faces when we arrived back at school. We would like to thank Becky, Brenda and Amy (mom helpers) for joining us and helping along the way.
You can enjoy pictures of our field trip on our websites. Just look under Teacher pages and find your child's teacher. There is a Field Trip Link.
